Songs of Degrees, Part 11
Illusionary Fronts Judged
Songs of Degrees: This is a sermon
series about Psalms 120 through 134. The Songs of Degrees, or the
Songs of Ascents, are meant to teach us about our upward journey
toward what God wills for His church. There are 15 of these songs
and there were 1,500 years between the ministry of Moses and the
earthly ministry of Jesus Christ. When God gave Moses the plan for
the Tabernacle, it was the beginning of His plan to restore man, to
rescue man. This plan, we know, was fulfilled by the death,
resurrection, and ascension of our Lord and Savior.
Like a Hollywood set,
things in our lives and in the church can be an illusionary front,
form without substance. God desires truth, even in the inward parts
of our hearts. His Holy Spirit is given to judge the house of God
and set things in order and the church must receive and submit to
it, or the faithful city will become a harlot (Isa. 1:21).

Psalm 130
| A Song of degrees. Out of
the depths have I cried unto thee, O LORD. |
| Lord, hear my voice: let
thine ears be attentive to the voice of my
supplications. |
| If thou, LORD, shouldest
mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? |
| But there is forgiveness
with thee, that thou mayest be feared. |
| I wait for the LORD, my
soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. |
| My soul waiteth for the
Lord more than they that watch for the morning:
I say, more than they that watch for the
morning. |
| Let Israel hope in the
LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with
him is plenteous redemption. |
| And he shall redeem Israel
from all his iniquities. |
Psalm 130 |
Ezekiel 13
| And the word of the LORD
came unto me, saying, |
| Son of man, prophesy
against the prophets of Israel that prophesy,
and say thou unto them that prophesy out of
their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD; |
| Thus saith the Lord GOD;
Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their
own spirit, and have seen nothing! |
| O Israel, thy prophets are
like the foxes in the deserts. |
| Ye have not gone up into
the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the
house of Israel to stand in the battle in the
day of the LORD. |
| They have seen vanity and
lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and
the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made
others to hope that they would confirm the word. |
| Have ye not seen a vain
vision, and have ye not spoken a lying
divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it;
albeit I have not spoken? |
| Therefore thus saith the
Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and
seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you,
saith the Lord GOD. |
| And mine hand shall be upon
the prophets that see vanity, and that divine
lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my
people, neither shall they be written in the
writing of the house of Israel, neither shall
they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall
know that I am the Lord GOD. |
| Because, even because they
have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there
was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo,
others daubed it with untempered mortar: |
Ezekiel 13:1-10 |
Isaiah 26
| In that day shall this song
be sung in the land of Judah; We have a strong
city; salvation will God appoint for walls and
bulwarks. |
| Open ye the gates, that the
righteous nation which keepeth the truth may
enter in. |
| Thou wilt keep him in
perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee. |
| Trust ye in the LORD for
ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting
strength: |
Isaiah 26:1-4 |
Proverbs 21
| Every way of a man is right
in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the
hearts. |
Proverbs 21:2 |
Isaiah 1
| How is the faithful city
become an harlot! it was full of judgment;
righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. |
| Thy silver is become dross,
thy wine mixed with water: |
| Thy princes are rebellious,
and companions of thieves: every one loveth
gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge
not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of
the widow come unto them. |
| Therefore saith the Lord,
the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah,
I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge
me of mine enemies: |
| And I will turn my hand
upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and
take away all thy tin: |
| And I will restore thy
judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as
at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be
called, The city of righteousness, the faithful
city. |
| Zion shall be redeemed with
judgment, and her converts with righteousness. |
| And the destruction of the
transgressors and of the sinners shall be
together, and they that forsake the LORD shall
be consumed. |
| For they shall be ashamed
of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall
be confounded for the gardens that ye have
chosen. |

Genesis 49
| Dan shall judge his people,
as one of the tribes of Israel. |
| Dan shall be a serpent by
the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the
horse heels, so that his rider shall fall
backward. |
